Measuring 6 by 11 inches, this original piece was created through a layered, three step mixed media process that begins with observation and ends in interpretation.
 
Lane first photographed the scene as it naturally unfolded. In the studio, she printed selected images on a variety of photographic and fine art papers, refining the combination until the foundation felt right. She then overlaid the image with watercolor paint, continuing the story that Mother Nature had already begun. Once the piece dried, it was photographed again, and only the version that best conveyed the detail and essence of the moment was preserved.
 
Although the warning signs carry serious meaning during warmer weather, Lane could not help but smile at nature’s unexpected contribution. The piece captures that quiet humor, where gravity and lightness meet, reminding us that even the most serious messages can be softened by a moment of grace or surprise.
