The original artwork is completed in charcoal and measures 16 by 10 inches. This piece is based on Blessed Ludovica Albertoni by Bernini, located at the Church of San Francesco a Ripa in Rome.
 
When Lane encountered the sculpture, she was overwhelmed by its intimacy and extraordinary detail. She recalls the desire to climb onto the figure, to trace every fold and contour by hand, hoping to absorb the experience fully before translating it into two dimensions. This drawing is her attempt to carry that tactile, emotional encounter onto paper, with the hope that some measure of the original’s power and presence remains.
